Amsterdam, Netherlands – Novility is launching three new interactive training modules to complement its extensive course curriculum, doubling it in size. In addition to "Housekeeping", "Introduction to Ergonomics", and "Ergonomics Awareness: Housekeeping", the team is excited to showcase its new additions with a live demonstration for the first time at HITEC Houston this year. These include: "Cleaning Public Areas", "Bellhop SOPs", and "Ergonomics Awareness: Bellhops".

The training is carried out on the Novility L.I.V.E. platform—the hospitality industry's first interactive training solution powered by motion-tracking and voice-recognition technology. Hotel employees are guided through their roles and responsibilities by the virtual trainer "Mary" in an engaging and hands-on 3D environment.

New Training Modules: What's in it for the Employees?

Public Area Cleaning Attendants are instructed on how to clean their hotel property's facilities in an efficient, independent, and discreet manner, provided with tips on cleaning frequency and scheduling. Trainees will be shown the various cleaning techniques used for the different floor types, furniture, and appliances found in the hotel areas covered such as: the lobby, food and beverage outlets, fitness facilities, staircases, corridors, and more.

Bellhops are provided with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully welcome guests and handle their luggage, as well as understand the correct guest departure processes. Valet service and additional errands that can be asked of the Bellhop role are also taught.

More than learning the procedures, Public Area Cleaning Attendants and Bellhops will understand the importance of their role and how they contribute to their hotel's image. It is in their hands to create a lasting positive first impression of the hotel and it is not to be underestimated.

Focus: Ergonomics Training to Promote a Productive and Healthy Team

In Novility's training, an employee's tasks are highlighted with ergonomics principles to ensure that employees know how to carry out their activities in a healthy and safe manner to reduce the risk of fatigue and injury. This is also included in all of the new modules being released as well.

"With a dedicated "Ergonomics Awareness" module for each role, the main learning objective is to help employees analyze their specific task environments and prepare their body position and posture to perform each task while protecting their body from injuries. This is especially useful for tasks where one commonly encounters awkward postures, excessive force, or repetitive motions" - Inês de Castro Fernandes, Lead Ergonomics Specialist at Novility

Thanks to Novility's use of motion-tracking technology integrated into Novility L.I.V.E.'s training station, hotel teams can effectively learn and train on the correct body movements specific to their activities before applying them properly on the job.

Injury prevention is a topic of growing importance in the hospitality industry, and a worthy example is set by the State of California, which has recently released regulations designed to specifically protect hotel housekeeping employees from musculoskeletal injuries. More information on this can be found in this article. This is only the beginning, and there is opportunity to further acknowledge the injury risks pertaining to hotel employees and to take action to improve overall employee well-being.

Sustainable Results: Creating a Culture of Continuous Learning

Novility strives to foster a culture at hotels that puts learning at the forefront. The company firmly believes in small bursts of learning every day that will generate productive and healthy hotel teams for the long term. Novility's training content is designed in bite-sized chunks that allows for this to occur seamlessly.

To make working in hospitality easier, Novility ensures that the training itself is also made easier to speed up new hire onboarding. Employees can learn in their native language, and the virtual trainer "Mary" guides hotel teams consistently with the proper application of procedures and body movements, giving immediate corrective feedback along the way. Refresher training sessions are also promoted to encourage sustainable learning and thereby upkeep desired staff performance.

Training Management: What's New?

Along with the release of new training modules for hotel employees on Novility L.I.V.E., there are also new updates on Novility H.E.L.P.—Novility's user-friendly training management and analytics tool. Training managers are able to assign multiple personalized courses to their employees, as well as perform mass training actions or edits to multiple trainees at the same time on the platform. Furthermore, trainees can now access their training results when shared by their manager in a dedicated link. The objective of the training and management thereof is designed to be frictionless, facilitating a manager's daily tasks, allowing for their time to be spent on other important initiatives.
