Hotel EMC2, an “art- and science-inspired hotel” in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood, already had used two concierge robots since opening about a year and a half ago. The hotel would dispatch the bots, named Leo and Cleo, to deliver amenities such as extra towels or a toothbrush to guest rooms.

With the partnership, customers now have the ability to book and manage their travel plans through hands-free voice commands on any Google Assistant-enabled device, including the Google Pixel phone, the Google Home and Google Home Mini.

Bellagio installs IoT solution to conserve water

MGM Resorts International has partnered with Apana on a water conservation program at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. WaterStart connected the technology company with MGM and the Southern Nevada Water Authority. This initial project involves connecting Apana’s IoT technology to the casino’s water network in order to provide real-time, actionable insight about leaks and irregular use to hotel engineering staff through the company's analytics software.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian is optimistic that ally Air France will overcome its ongoing labor issues, and the carrier is ready to play its role in that recovery. Speaking last week at the BTN Group's The Beat Live conference in Atlanta, Bastian said he's confident new Air France-KLM CEO Benjamin Smith would "figure this out." Smith joined the carrier from Air Canada, and Bastian said he was involved in hiring Smith. Several days of strikes and canceled service this year amid failed contract negotiations delivered a large financial hit to Air France, which also resulted in the departure of former CEO Jean-Marc Janaillac.

Facial recognition check-in rolled out at 50 hotels in China

Alibaba’s Fliggy online travel agency and Shiji, a hotel information systems manufacturer, have rolled out a facial-recognition system for hotel check-ins at about 50 hotels in Hainan Province, China. With the new system, guests can book hotels on Fliggy and then check in and have credit authorized by having their faces and ID cards scanned at a kiosk at the hotel.
