Facial recognition check-in rolled out at 50 hotels in China

Alibaba’s Fliggy online travel agency and Shiji, a hotel information systems manufacturer, have rolled out a facial-recognition system for hotel check-ins at about 50 hotels in Hainan Province, China. With the new system, guests can book hotels on Fliggy and then check in and have credit authorized by having their faces and ID cards scanned at a kiosk at the hotel.

HP Hotels adopts PurpleCloud task software

North American Hoteliers See Positive Third Quarter

IAG Increases Global Distribution System Surcharge

International Airlines Group carriers British Airways and Iberia will increase their global distribution system surcharge on Sept. 18, the airlines disclosed in an agency alert. When their surcharge took hold last November, the airlines levied on GDS bookings 8 British pounds or $10 per "fare component," generally defined as a one-way ticket or half a round-trip.

Despite a 1.1 percent year-on-year increase in RevPAR, profit per room at hotels in the U.S. dropped 2.2 percent this month due to declining non-rooms revenues and rising costs.
