Driving millennials to a hotel and keeping things as personal as possible has become a priority for hotels and, naturally, this includes direct bookings.

More specifically, we talked about how you can optimize your hotel’s Facebook and Twitter profiles, in order to make sure that they appeal to travelers and are going to be a reason for them to choose and book your hotel.

Consider, in your experience, the rarity of true leadership and the unusual nature of reliable leadership. While leadership has nothing to do with time in a position or age, it is a reflection of accountability, confidence, responsibility and wisdom.

If you ever had to call customer support, regardless of the specialty, you are familiar with the generic robot voice and elevator music at the beginning of the call. “Thank you for calling X. For Y related inquiries, please press 1”. Truth being told, no one can deny the functionality and the value of the chatbots. They help you get past the basic part of your demand, getting you from A to… well, M. But in the end what you really want, the reason why you made the call, is to talk to an actual person. To have a fellow human help you with your issue. To get to Z.

Amazon will increasingly subsidize Echo by bundling content (think music, video) with the device,” Forrester Principal Analyst Thomas Husson told Yahoo Finance. "They can afford this since this is not core to their business model: the end-goal is to facilitate interactions." The last two words of Husson’s quote summarize what Amazon Echo can do for the hospitality industry: facilitate interactions. Indeed, that’s one of the reasons why the Wynn hotel recently announced that it’ll be putting Echo in all 4,748 of its hotel rooms by summer 2017. The question remains: is this beneficial or unnecessary?

Often times, hoteliers, and particularly revenue managers, have to choose between strategies that enhance guest satisfaction versus those that increase revenues. You could offer unlimited, free wi-fi to guests in order to boost satisfaction, or you could charge a few dollars to make a profit from these services.

In this blog series, “Break Away from the OTA”, we have already discussed how hotels can counter OTAs during the search and booking and onsite experience phases of the guest journey. To help complete the cycle, we will continue with strategies that impact post-stay feedback. Did you know that nearly half of a hotel’s published online reviews are solicited from the hotel itself? While this may be a lot of work for the hotel, the end result is well worth the effort. Solicited guest reviews are positive 81% of the time and result in 8% higher scores for the hotel. Therefore, hotels should make use of any opportunity to encourage their guests to review their stay. More reviews equals better scores, higher rankings, and more bookings!

A lot can change in just a few years – especially in the hospitality industry. For today's hotelier, creating and maintaining a hotel tech stack is a constant challenge. David Tuza began his career in hospitality as the 10th employee at a then little-known company called SiteMinder. Pretty soon, the Australian-based company known for its cloud-based hospitality software had gone global, expanding to over 400 employees with over 22,000 hotels under its belt.

Hotels may debate over which amenities to offer at their property, but travelers agree: the one they want most is hotel Wi-Fi. A Hotels.com survey determined that over half of all hotel customers wish free wireless internet was available at all hotels. TripAdvisor confirms this finding, stating 46% of travelers would specifically book a different hotel if their first choice didn’t offer complimentary hotel Wi-Fi. These customer bases are too high to ignore. Internet has become a utility, like hot water or electricity, rather than an optional service. Guests have online access everywhere, from fast food restaurants to bus stops. It only makes sense that a place travelers are spending a third of their day (or more) should offer Wi-Fi as well, especially since hotels can use this access to their advantage during a guest’s stay as well.

The shift to mobile devices for planning and booking is a big opportunity for travel brands. Mobile bookings are expected to surpass desktop transactions for the first time ever. If you're focused on improving your hotel’s booking app, keep in mind conversions start long before the reservation itself. Nearly three-quarters of travelers will research their trips on smartphones and tablets in 2016.

Hotel technology is more important and prevalent in today’s world than ever before. Technology makes our lives easier as it completes tasks that we cannot or simply don’t want to manage. Many companies, especially software companies, promise to save us time which in turn saves us money and stress. Efficiency is top of mind for all types of business owners from small independent hoteliers, to the general managers of the world’s largest hotels. But, the real value of hotel technology goes far beyond simply saving us time.

Today, technology, almost more than anything, plays a huge role in how consumers book and experience travel. Prior to our hyper-connected world, travelers relied on brands and hotel concierges to get trusted tips and tricks. Now there’s more information than travelers even know what to do with. There is an ever-growing number of mobile apps to help people get where they’re going. New mobile technology helps make it easier for business to provide information and consumers to receive it. Personalized travel is becoming the new norm and now startups want to help solve consumers' pain points. As a hotelier, it’s important to track trends and identify how your property can follow them.

OTA’s significantly changed the travel industry with pricing transparency and a large selection of accommodations. Yet they pose a huge challenge to individual hotels offering online bookings due to price comparisons and competition. There is almost no getting around online travel agencies: hotels benefit from large-scale marketing strategies, a broad customer base, and last minute sales. The disadvantage comes with the high commissions, which reinforces the desire for more direct bookings. Aside from the price-benefit-ratio, reviews play an important role when making a booking decision. TrustYou is the world’s largest feedback platform and supports hoteliers to make their best use of reviews to increase direct bookings and to collect and analyze a higher number of reviews. Through our partnership with Google, TrustYou Stars enables hoteliers to push survey guest feedback directly into Google to receive better visibility and a better ranking on Google.
